Having met while studying at a local arts college, Anvea and Mizee fell in love through their shared passion for the arts, music and design.
Now, the vibrant home they have created together serves as a reflection of this shared passion.
“We hope this space will inspire our son Atze to embrace the same creative spirit that first brought us together,” said Mizee.
Finding a Location that’s Perfect for Them
In scouting for their first home, Anvea and Mizee prioritised a location that could offer a tranquil environment and is near both of their parents, when they applied for a 5-room BTO flat at Forest Spring @ Yishun.
“The location was a major draw for us as we wanted a peaceful and scenic view. Our home is located just in front of Lower Seletar Reservoir and surrounded by lush greenery,” said Mizee.
“Having new amenities nearby, such as a supermarket and a preschool just 5 minutes away, has made our lives much more convenient and enjoyable as well. Plus, our home is close to our parents, so they can help to look after our son if we need to work on weekends.”
The Freedom to Create
Without adhering to a specific theme, the couple’s design approach reflects their creative lifestyle and interests. They handled the entire renovation by directly engaging a project manager and various contractors, giving the couple greater control over the design and execution process.
“We value the freedom to express our creativity, allowing our personal style to resonate throughout our home,” explained Anvea.
Their flat is like an art gallery, as the couple enjoys displaying and appreciating their collection of sentimental items. “Every piece on display has a personal story and adds to the visual appeal of our home.”
One of the standout features of their home is the collection of guitar amplifiers and guitars strategically placed throughout.
Anvea plays in her own band, performing gigs from time to time on the side. “Hanging guitars around our home makes it feel like I’m at a music studio, and I can play whenever inspiration strikes. Of course, I’ll usually play during the day so that I don’t cause any inconvenience to my neighbours at night!”
Anvea and Mizee envisioned their flat to not only serve as a creative outlet, but a home with functional spaces for the family. Therefore, flexibility plays an important role in their home, allowing them to reconfigure spaces as the family grows and their needs evolve.
For instance, Mizee transformed one of the rooms into a home office and entertainment hub, which can double up as a space for him to relax and play games, or as an office space for Anvea when she is working from home.
Growing Together as a Family
The young family cherishes the home they have created and shaped, and plans to live in it for as long as they can.
“We want to continue to build memories and enjoy life together here. Our home is more than just a place; it’s where we find safety, comfort, and more importantly, the freedom to be ourselves.”
