Welcome to Margaret and Peter’s cosy retirement home: a 2-room Flexi flat in Punggol Point Cove with scenic views of the waterfront.
Having lived in their 3-room flat in Ghim Moh for the past 19 years, the elderly couple decided that it was time to right-size to a smaller home.
The couple visited the My Nice Home Gallery to view showflats of various flat types, and felt that the 2-room Flexi flat was the most suitable for them.
A Location that Ticks All the Boxes
“Because of our old age, it’s not easy to keep a 3-room flat neat and tidy. Staying in a 2-room Flexi flat will cut down the time needed for housework. The floor plan is just nice for the 2 of us and our dog too,” said 75-year-old Margaret.
As Margaret is currently working in Lorong Chuan, moving to Punggol made it more convenient for her, as it is closer to her workplace as compared to Ghim Moh.
Their new home is conveniently located a bus-ride away from Waterway Point, for days when they need to do their grocery shopping. If they are craving seafood, they also head to Punggol Settlement which is just one bus stop away.
“Our new house is also close to my youngest son and his family – they’re staying in Punggol too. It’s now more convenient for us to visit each other, especially since I help to look after his children sometimes,” Margaret shared.
A Home Built with Care
Margaret and Peter’s short-lease 2-room Flexi flat came with senior-friendly fittings such as grab bars and rocker switches.
The grab bars are useful for Peter as he experiences pain in his knees due to a surgery
Peter certainly does not let age define him – the 79-year-old had a hand in shaping the necessities in his home, with DIY installation works such as installing shower curtains and new shelves above the washing machine.

Retiring Comfortably
“Our flat has a 30-year lease, which is a good option for seniors. We can extend the lease or rent the flat if we are still around after 30 years, which is a flexible option for us,” said Margaret.
After selling their 3-room flat, Peter and Margaret had cash proceeds to boost their retirement savings.
The elderly couple chose to keep their house layout simple and bought only what they needed, allowing them to enjoy a fuss-free lifestyle and clean their home easily.
“For senior citizens like us, we mostly don’t go out. We usually cook at home and watch television shows, so while this new home is a bit smaller, it is comfortable for us,” Margaret said.
Margaret enjoys cooking meals at home.
Making New Memories Together
The couple might be in their seventies, but nothing stops them from building new memories together in their new abode. Top on their list is going on adventures such as exploring Coney Island Park, which is a stone’s throw from home.
“We like to sit in our living room and admire the waterfront view from our window,” Margaret said with a smile. “We also go on daily walks around the neighbourhood with our dog.”
